Resident Requests of Westerners
* Please keep your clothes on. Swimwear is okay at the beach, but please wear a shirt in the village.
* Be aware of your voice. Westerners are often not aware of their volume. Please be careful not to shout through residential areas.
Open Mon-Fri: 9:00am-5:00pm. The staff at both Aka and Zamami's post offices speak enough English to do almost anything. The ATM inside is open Mon.-Fri. 8:00am-5:30pm and Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm.
The islands use Japanese yen and the acceptance of international credit cards at businesses is rare. There is one ATM at the post offices on Zamami and Aka. The ATM hours are Mon-Fri: 8:00am-5:30pm, Saturday: 8:00am-5:00pm. The postal service ATM accepts credit cards. Please note, the ATM is CLOSED on Sundays (and nights).
It's separated by paper, PET bottles (clear plastic with caps and wrappers removed), metal, glass, burnable (most everything else), and non-burnable (batteries, appliances). You must dispose of your trash in a Zamami-specific bag and you must divide it into separate bags. The bags only cost about ¥10-20 apiece, depending on size. Bags are available for sale individually from the Info Desk at the port or the camping office in Ama.
Links to hotels or businesses are provided in their descriptions on the Places to Stay or Restaurants pages.
